Blockchain has already changed many markets, and there are many good reasons to believe that we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg too. We’re already seeing the impacts of the technology in various sectors, including some that came as a bit of a surprise. Not many expected that blockchain would have such a noticeable impact on the restaurant supply chain industry, for example, yet here we are. It’s one of the most active adopters of the new technology, and it looks like this will continue in the near future too.

Exploring New Fields

Blockchain has a lot to offer to an industry like this. Problems with verifying long transaction chains are nothing new under the sun when dealing with the supply industry, and restaurants seem particularly susceptible to that for some reason. Blockchain has allowed many companies in the sector to reconcile the differences in their accounting and tracking and has created a much more comfortable environment for everyone involved.

Adapting to Current Trends

At the same time, it’s important to adapt the implementation of this technology to the way certain current trends in the market operate. There are many legacy systems and parts of the overall system which are still heavily in use but don’t exactly mesh together with technology like blockchain. There is still a lot of paperwork involved, including the traditional procedures of stamping, signing, and so on. Many of those documents never get digitized either, further adding to the complexity of integrating blockchain into the sector properly.

But it’s happening. It might take a while before we see the true potential of blockchain realized fully in this sector, but it’s going to happen sooner or later. And when it does, those who’ve been on top of adopting this technology from early on will be the ones who will benefit the most.

Dealing with Resistance

And that brings us to another important point that needs addressing. There is still a lot of resistance in the restaurant supply sector, mostly because a large number of processes still rely on old methods as we described above. At the same time, not everyone understands blockchain fully. The combination of these factors has created an environment where many people have an active interest against adopting blockchain, and are trying to resist the changes as much as possible.

Consent

But that’s just an illusion from their perspective. The integration of blockchain into the businesses of those people will likely have some strong, noticeable benefits for them. But it will take some effort to realize those benefits in the beginning, and many don’t want to go through that when they can just keep coasting on their current performance.

Scaling Benefits

Another great thing about blockchain is that it can set up a company for the future much more effectively than many other modern technologies, mostly due to its high scalability potential. One of the best things about blockchain, in general, is the ease of scaling up operations based on it, and this is something with direct relevance to the restaurant supply sector. It can be much easier to scale up your operations when everything is based on blockchain underneath, and sometimes you won’t even notice any impact on your resource utilization at all.

Easy Integration with Other Technologies

Blockchain also plays nice with many other technologies that are gaining prominence today. It’s not all about cryptocurrencies, either. Many other solutions are coming up on the horizon that have brought some very real benefits to the table, and many of them can work very well when integrated along with blockchain on a more fundamental level. Some researchers have even based entire new solutions on blockchain as their backbone, resulting in an even easier implementation whenever a company decides to adopt those technologies into their own work.

The Way to the Future

And this all brings us to the most important point here. Many have been saying for a while now that blockchain will revolutionize the restaurant industry, including some prominent players like SliceLife. And every day this becomes more and more true. It’s starting to become painfully obvious now that blockchain will be all around us in the near future, and the restaurant supply industry is no different.

There are many changes coming up on the horizon for many of the sectors touched by the restaurant supply industry. From transportation to communication, and of course computers themselves a lot will change over just the next decade, and much of that will be tied to blockchain one way or another. Which makes it crucial for anyone who wants to stay afloat in this sector to stay in touch with these technologies as well. It’s become obvious that blockchain is much more than a passing trend at this point, and it’s important to look into integrating it into one’s own company as deeply as possible.
