Daily, the world sees more than 500 million tweets and just a decade ago, Twitter did not exist as a service. This is just one of the examples how the unstoppable development of social media, cloud computing, mobility and big data continue to influence the behavior of consumers, but also affect the expectations of the workforce.

Because of this, it is essential for any business to stay connected to the latest trends in the digital arena. With this in mind, it is useful to look into the future and observe what are the most important changes coming into the workforce in the year 2020. Here are the five essential ideas about the way in which the professionals of the future will be engaged in their business dealings.

It is all about Wearables

In 2015, events like Consumer Electronic Show or CES clearly presented that the interest in this topic is on the rise, with things like smart-watches, incredibly small computers and trackers for pets. But, the wearable tech is still seen as a solution to a non-existent problem. In the future, it can be expected that a lot more sophisticated technology will produce solutions to things like health monitoring and adding effectiveness to everyday lives via a connection to cloud computing servers.

This will mostly impact jobs in the transport sector, but also police and military branches. For this to happen the user experience remains the most significant challenge, but things like digital implants or even smart tattoos will probably bridge this gap.

Mobile by Default

Mobility is becoming the absolute standard and the workforce will experience the same. With technology no longer being a limiting factor, the employees of the future will be able to work when and how they like, using specialized collaborative ecosystems.

The business field will demand devices and apps that are effective in the traditional IT field of management and usability but are also fully mobile. Cloud computing will be used here to great effect, along with advanced Ultra-book devices, which are fast and light, along with having a standard PC level of productivity and ample amounts of security and data protection.

The Security Challenge

Today, the biggest challenge faced by CIO’s is the creation of secure environments and lowering the chance of losing sensitive data; the same scenario will be definitely present in 2020 as well as safeguarding the connections of devices to the networks gets increasingly challenging, the option of cutting back on remote access and remote archiving is not really viable.

Because of this, any business will need the combined services of specialists in tech consulting, operation-based professionals and experts in mobility so that a required level of security can be attained. This will include hardware encryption, biometric data for login purposes, remote security management and similar technologies that will safeguard the critical data located on cloud computing servers.

Everything Software

The world is rapidly moving towards a point where all processes are virtualized and software is used in everything from taxi services to retail and hospitality industry. In the future to come, smart apps will manage and run server networks, cloud storage, and complete data centers. Those businesses that do not get on board with this process will definitely struggle to survive.

Digital Natives Everywhere

Digital natives can be expected only to grow in the workforce. They will bring ideas that are different, but also different mindsets. They will also communicate and think in a different way, using things like WhatsApp and Twitter more than email. This will include two types of challenges. Firstly, these young people will need to be attracted to the workforce that shares many digital factors that are present in their regular lives.

The second challenge is not to let the older generations slip away from the same workforce. Things like reverse mentoring will become increasingly popular and it will include young people teaching older employees how to work using new technology. With the aid of mobile devices, cloud computing, and other advancements, these two workforces can be unified in a single digital workplace.

The collective thread that combines all these ideas is the essential user experience. While technology is empowering the end consumers and elevating their expectation in private and professional lives, the necessity of accommodating these same expectations in the work setting is also on the rise. By being prepared for these times, any company can make sure that the digital future is theirs for the taking.
