On 1 June 2016, Open State Foundation and the Presidency of the Council of the European Union will host the very first TransparencyCamp Europe in Amsterdam. TransparencyCamp Europe is an unconference that focuses on open data, new technologies and policies that make the EU work for people, stimulates open government and helps people grasp the workings of the various EU institutions.’
Participants
Participants from all over Europe will share their expertise on new technologies and governing policies to stimulate an open government. Developers, policy makers, journalists, diplomats, technologists, students, government officials and the public at large will come together to formulate and share ideas, insights, best practices and innovative measures on how to use technology to make governments more transparent and inclusive.’
The unconference will also host the final of the TransparencyCamp Europe App Competition. The nominees will pitch their applications before a jury, after which the overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced.?’
What is an unconference?
But what exactly is an ‘unconference’, you may ask? An unconference is an unscheduled conference, where you decide the agenda. At TransparencyCamp Europe, everyone participates. If there’s room for innovation, be it technological or otherwise, we will find it.’
This will be the first TransparencyCamp Europe, but not the first in the world. Since 2009, transparency camps have been organised in the United States by Sunlight Foundation, leaving thousands of participants energised, full of ideas, and flush with new contacts and networks.’
