In this day and age, information is everywhere. We are buried under it, bombarded with information constantly. However, information is also power, it gives you an edge in whatever kind of business you are in. This is why big data analytics exists. You analyze, you process big sets of data, you sift through what is and is not important, and then take what you can use. Big data analytics has been a staple, in one form or another, since the very concept of business began. However, it changed and evolved, it moved in the same rhythm technology does. And now, since the internet has become so ubiquitous and everpresent, it’s simply a cornerstone of anyone who wants to see success.
But, taking all the above into account, you need to always be on your toes. The world constantly changes, the technological landscape morphs by the second, and 2019 will be no different. Read on below if you want to see what we believe the New Year will hold for this concept.
Machine learning “ Yes or No?
Machine learning is here to stay, no question about that. The early stages of AI have done wonders for any kind of data processing in almost all fields that deal with huge amounts of information. For years now it’s been something of a holy grail. When you deal with data analytics, you deal with huge amounts of information at a time. Now, there is no question that a human simply needs to be there. Traditional analytics is not going anywhere. But, the mundane brunt of the work will be covered more and more by machine learning.
Ad hoc analytics, business dashboard, forensic analysis “ we still need analysts to do these tasks. But, predictive purposes and clear specific tasks will be covered more and more by machine learning. There is no doubt that its importance will grow, especially when we consider the general exponential growth of technology. Even if you didn’t have a use for it before, this rudimental AI services may just find some purpose for your business in 2019. Be on the lookout.
Computing power and infrastructure
Keeping in line with our point on the exponential growth and advancement of technology, we, of course, need to mention computing power. It doesn’t matter if you’re hiring a good company, like HMD web development, to design your website, an accounting firm using software to run your books, or, of course, you’re yourself running big data analytics, increased computing power will make everything run more smoothly.
This connects wonderfully with edge computing and the actual infrastructure of processing information. Without going into too much detail, with greater computing power, you, of course, get stronger computers. These allow for the easier decentralization of computation of processing, instead of having it all in one centralized cloud. This, in turn, makes data transfer and processing much easier.
In order to have proper edge computing, you need power and storage. And of course, you need tools that will process the information stored there. Then, you need more tools to move the data towards the edge. After that, tools that process everything further, and of course, machine learning to stay on the edge itself. Essentially, you will need lots of power, something that we expect 2019 will bring, quite soon.
Data retention
You, of course, need to keep and store data. Furthermore, you need to back it up, sometimes indefinitely. In 2019, we expect certain systems and machine learning programs that can actually clean and secure your data much more efficiently. Furthermore, these programs can be set up and taught in such a manner that they can remove any data you simply don’t need. Perhaps it’s out of date, or simply you just don’t need it anymore.
With the advance in technology, we expect cleaner clouds, more efficient data processing, and the more effective storage of data. Furthermore, certain algorithms can be set up in a manner which will allow you to re-create some of the data that you may have lost or that the systems deleted. The effectiveness of this specific feature is yet to be seen, but it is definitely something that you should keep an eye out.
The new role of CIO’s
Chief information officers will certainly find a new role to play at the companies they work for. Before, their job was all about infrastructure, and about securing said infrastructure properly. An important role no doubt, but definitely not an upper management position. We expect that their new roles will be focused on actually leading the company’s strategies in regard to data and information. These people are in charge of information, and, as we’ve already mentioned, information is power. They will have a much greater say in what is being done in a company, and how it will be done.
Technology always moves forward, whether we like to or not. If you want to stay successful, you need to follow trends and always keep your ear near the ground. The New Year will bring changes, whether in the new roles certain people will acquire at companies, more efficient ways to store and protect data, and the manner in which data will be backed up. All these are of course intertwined. Machine learning and greater computing power are advancing exponentially, and they present challenges and opportunities that must not be missed.
