Senior Software Engineer
Location: Malvern, UK
Remote Working: Up to 3 days per week; 2 days on-site to liaise with R&D and external teams on current/forthcoming projects
Duration: Full Time
Hours: 37.5 (This role operates in a flexi-time scheme. Overtime is unpaid)
Flexitime: (core hours 10.00am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm – 3.00pm) to help you to achieve a good work-life balance

About R&D
Malvern Panalytical's R&D function drives business growth by delivering customer-focussed products and services to a wide variety of markets. The Centre of Excellence development site in Malvern, UK, is responsible for developing products and solutions within our Physical characterisation portfolio. Projects range from small incremental improvements and optimisations to next generation and represent the cutting edge of multi-discipline engineering.
The Role
As the technical leader of a Scrum team amongst several within a larger R&D team, you will drive the delivery, and integration of software within scientific and industrial instrumentation solutions.
Responsibilities, anyone?
- You will work in all parts of the software development life-cycle and be responsible for designing and building software to gather and analyse data from our analytical instruments.
- You will help solve software related problems and related systems engineering issues, as well as providing up-to-date knowledge of new software innovations and their potential application to the wider organisation.
- You will work in a Scrum environment where cross functional teamwork and close collaboration with the customer is highly valued.?
- You will mentor junior team members, developing the next generation of software engineers.
- You will own the technical aspects of the team and the solution under development.
What do you need to be successful in this role?
- 5+ years' experience in a software development environment, ideally C#.
- Demonstrable experience with software requirements, architecture, design, development and software testing.
- You have strong analytical capabilities; you get energy from solving complex problems for a diversity of products and systems.
- Strongly results-driven with respect to customer products: Ability to think and act as an end user with emphasis on key product quality indicators, such as analytical performance, ease of use, robustness, completeness and speed.
- You are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Great to have?
Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Strong C# skills, Windows frameworks such as WPF
- Experience with Software principles like Clean code and SOLID
- Experience using requirements management tools, such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
- An interest in science and technology which goes beyond your day-to-day work.
