PURPOSE
To be a member of the Oakwood Theme Park Senior Management team where you will add value, influence and enhance the visitor experience. You will have strategic and tactical responsibility for implementing the engineering strategy, leading and developing the Engineering team who will collectively improve the overall quality and presentation of our 24 rides and attractions. You will be an ambassador for Oakwood Theme Park representing our attraction and building relationships with a variety of third parties such as contractors, suppliers, and associates from other theme parks at events lead by the likes of BALPPA (British Association of Leisure Park, Piers and Attractions
RESPONSIBILTIES
STRATEGIC AND DEVELOPMENT
- Overall responsibility for Engineering activities across the business
- Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to achieve required business performance standards
- Ensure engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs
- Create an Engineering team culture of working on 90% preventative maintenance tasks and 10% reactive maintenance tasks, minimizing times when rides are not operational.
OPERATIONAL
- You will take an active role in the daily management of the park including participation in daily management team meeting where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful day to day running of the park.
- You will plan the schedule of maintenance tasks taking into consideration all aspects of the business such as expected visitor numbers, opening hours, duty manager responsibilities etc. This will include planning and booking in resources such as Cranes, Cherry Pickers, consumables etc.
- You will plan and organise the rides operation in advance, in line with expected visitor numbers to ensure we exceed customer expectations.
- When you are informed a ride has stopped or there are concerns about a ride, you will attend the ride immediately where you will support the team in looking for the root cause of the problem and fixing it efficiently ensuring the ride can be operational again as soon as possible.
- You will be required to climb to the top of the rides up to 140 feet on a regular basis, as part of the required safety checks or to complete maintenance tasks.
- Be responsible for the procurement, contracting and management of contracted 3rd party services
- You will be the head of the new Mobaro system (mobaro.com) which is a digital platform used to record all checklists, ride cycle data, queue times, downtime, rides maintenance and engineering tasks. Mobaro will become an integral part of the attractions daily routine. You will use Mobaro reports to generate analytical information and insight into our 24 rides and attractions.
- You will be part of the Oakwood Theme Park duty management rota, which will give you variation to your role and expose you further to a more customer facing environment.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- You will keep up to date with the latest Health and Safety legislation and ADIPS (Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme) and ensure the Engineering operation is compliant.
- You should have a detailed knowledge of HSG175 Fairgrounds and amusement parks: guidance on safe practice.
- Ensure that environmental, health and safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to.
FINANCIAL BUDGET AND CONTROL
- Prepare the annual engineering budgets. Input and hold responsibility for engineering budgets.
- You will play a key role in future CAPEX (capital expenditures to upgrade and maintain physical assets such as property, buildings, technology) projects.
- Prudently manage direct costs and overheads such as payroll and external expenses.
- You will build relationships with account managers in our supply chain, sourcing and procuring the best materials, tools or parts required. You will negotiate and agree on the best prices, within agreed approval limits to ensure the efficient operation of the attraction.

- With the help of the Engineering team leader, create an Engineering team career progression plan.
- Line manage the Engineering team leader and support the engineering team leader in overseeing the rest of the team.
- Implement and manage the engineering apprenticeship scheme, due to be introduced in 2023.
- Support the T-Level engineering students who will be on site for 45 days across 2 years. Scheme due to start 2023.
GENERAL
- You will add value to the wider Oakwood Theme Park management team. Providing support in other areas of the business as and when required.
- With the support of the senior management team, you will be responsible for your own self development.
- During the winter season lead the engineering team to deliver the statutory annual inspection.
- During park opening to deliver the safe, effective maintenance and statutory inspection of all rides and equipment, with the aim of maximising ride and equipment availability and safety in operation.
- Ensure up to date drawings of the rides and attractions are maintained appropriately.
- Take part in site surveys conducted by our insurers.
- From time to time the senior management team may make reasonable requests for you to undertake dutiesnot necessarily covered in the above.
