Data collection and analysis is an up and coming industry that has grown extensively over the past few years. With the rise of the digital age and our increasing connection to the internet, we have created an immaculate amount of data. Reports show that in 2013, 90 percent of the world’s data had been collected in the previous two years. It’s anticipated that in 2020, the digital world will have as many digital bits as there are stars in our universe. Several prominent companies have learned to use this data and its benefits to improve their businesses. Companies such as Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Apple are among the biggest businesses leading the data collection industry, with Google being one of the largest.

Big data analysis can be used to improve any company in any industry by helping to direct business owners, executives, and other professionals in their important decision-making. Big data analysis works to collect and interpret a vast amount of information and then provides its findings to businesses. These discoveries allow business owners and executives to make better and more informed decisions. However, big data analysis can seem like a nebulous cloud for companies who are currently trying to incorporate it into their business strategies. As companies struggle to integrate their new big data analysis projects properly into their business they begin to see their programs fail. Here are three ways to better take advantage of big data analysis and help your project to succeed.

Regular Staff Training

Many big data analysis projects fail because businesses overestimate the knowledge and skill set their support staff has. A large variety of expertise is required to manage the day to day tasks of running a big data analysis project, and your current employees may not have all of these necessary strengths when you first implement your project. Some businesses choose to hire new employees, however, training your current employees can be more cost-effective. It’s important that businesses introduce their employees to this new technology during the pre-production stage and not after a project has gone live. This will allow employees the opportunity to become familiar with any differences and similarities within this new technology before there is any pressure from a live project. Once a data analysis project is live, it’s important that employees working on the project receive regular training to keep their skills polished and to help correct any mistakes before they happen.

Gradual Integration

When starting a new big data analysis project, it’s important that IT professionals find a way to incorporate it within their current IT strategies and plans. Keeping a new project isolated from your regular infrastructure and way of doing things can cause it to be neglected or to lose its significance, making it vulnerable to budget cuts. However, implementing too many big data projects and changes at one time can be overwhelming. The key to successfully fuse your big data ideas with your current IT infrastructure is to gradually integrate them.

Looking to the Future

As your company begins to develop big data analysis programs, it’s important that you consider the future of your business and the project. Before you start, make sure you have a good understanding of how these systems will function two or three years down the road. Consider the skills your current employees have and what training they will need. Most importantly, businesses need to understand how they will evaluate their big data analysis projects on their abilities to meet the business’s needs. This is especially important if there are other prominent individuals at your company that don’t yet see the value in your big data project. Taking on a big data analysis project is an investment, and should be given the same research and consideration businesses give when purchasing new products, such as computers and all flash array systems.

Big data analysis projects can seem overwhelming and overbearing at first, but they are a technology that any business can benefit from. Equipped with the insights from big data analysis, companies can make more informed decisions about their products, services, customers, and more. By holding regular staff trainings, gradually integrating your projects, and planning for the future, businesses can make the most of their big data analysis projects.
