10 Predictions for the Big Data Analytics Space

The end and beginning of a new year are always filled with trends and predictions for the new year and I have one more interesting infographic that I would like to share with you. This infographic has been developed by Aureus Analytics and covers 10 different Big Data Analytics trends. Lets briefly discuss a few of them

Extreme Real Time Big Data Analytics

With the growth in data streams from multiple sources comes also the requirement for analysing that data in milliseconds. Especially relevant for online companies with dynamic websites that want to determine the profile of a visitor the moment he or she enters the website in order to offer a relevant and personal website. It is also used in the Online Ad business, where the advertisement needs to be matched with the profile of the visitor in milliseconds.

Growth of Data lakes

The growth of data lakes is also a trend I also foresee and discussed in my trend briefing for 2015. Data lakes contain any sort of data, structured and unstructured, and enable the user to easily combine data and obtain a single source of truth. Data lakes are also a lot cheaper to maintain, instead of different data sources stored in different silos across the organization.

Data Governance

We will indeed see a need for more data governance in the coming years. Especially for organizations that deal with sensitive data have to ensure that their data is correct, is stored securely and that the privacy of the customer is protected. Too many data breaches have resulted in too many privacy issues. In addition to that, incorrect data can be harmful for your organization and your customers. Master Data Management is a common practice and this remains important also when dealing with Big Data.

Deep Learning Capabilities

Deep learning is an advanced technology within the Big Data space and it combines machine-learning and artificial intelligence techniques to uncover relationships and patterns within various data sources. Deep learning is heavily used by among others Google, who use it among others to improve their advertising platform. If you are new to deep learning, here is an interesting article about four lessons from Google on deep learning.

Big Data Beyond Data Scientists

According to Aureus Analytics, the coming year we will move beyond the role of Big Data Scientist and we will see a lot more specialized roles. The term Big Data Scientist is of course extremely broad as there are so many different areas within this space. New roles such as predictive analytics developers or Hadoop specialists will offer a bit more guidance when looking for the right staff for your company.

Again, we have seen already many different trends and prediction on the topic of Big Data, and as a famous quote by Yogi Berra goes: It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future. So i the coming year we will see what happens and where the industry will go. One thing is for sure: interesting Big Data times await us.
