The technological background
The invention of the self-driven cars is marked as one of the extraordinary steps that have been made in technology. With this technology installed into our cars, it creates concerns over whether one should proceed to teach themselves some driving skills in case one was a novice at the skill. The technology behind self-driven cars is sophisticated and ordinary minds cannot grasp the idea behind this type of revolution. In a nutshell, the semi-autonomous vehicle technology serves to ensure safety by doing all the driving for you. In a scenario where the weather is much cloudy, and the road is not visible, then the self-driven cars come in hand with their senses and their robotic driving capabilities. Notably, the semi-autonomous can outshine the human driver and drive miles without bumping into a vehicle or driving into the wrong lane.
The smartness that the self-driven cars present the users is beyond our thinking. It is clear that computers are here to make things easy for us while making us lazy. For instance, can you imagine yourself getting into a car each morning, then the car drives off from the parking area by itself and heads to the highway by itself! The car then parks by itself when you arrive back home, and the whole procedure repeats itself daily.
Why they make me freak
Does the idea of sitting in a vehicle that understands human instructions get you fear a little. When I talk about self-driven cars, a spasm of fear runs down my spine, and this is why. Naturally, when you have driven for ages, there is a habit that usually clogs your mind that a safe driven care is only that is driven when you are on the wheel. We trust our computers very well and some point they disappoint us by freezing due to many applications being run at the same time, could this happen to the semi-Autonomous cars in future in when negotiating a corner or roundabout or where there is a junction. For me, there is no reason to throw much trust on these devices we ought to be watchful lest they lead us into a calamity.
There is never enough proof that the cars will drive us safe every day of my life not in this era when the number of cars is slowly outshining the number of road users. We certainly need the human brain on the wheel.
Mase Rosekind gives me another reason to worry about as he states that although the self-driven cars are said to be safe, that is not a guarantee that our roads will be devoid of car crashes and the catastrophic accidents on our roads. In another response to the safety of the technology, Nidhi Kalra says that there is no likelihood that the self-driven car will run over the bush and the squirrels as where there is complete indecision, i.e., the car cannot make a decision the engineer will direct it correctly. The question arises as for how many engineers would be required when we all drive to the countryside. Will all the engineers be available at the time? The whole idea is frightening.
Insurance should be ready for destruction
The semi-autonomous cars are changing the way the auto insurance companies are making their policies as the cars will be driven at a more faster speed than the normal driving. Tesla, a good example of self-driven cars is said to have shifted the insurance liability from the drivers to the company itself. The model of shifting the insurance liability from car owners to the car makers should frighten any insurance company as the number of clients will drop drastically when the car owners insure the cars themselves as compared to the earlier fashion. The kind of loss that the insurance companies are going to undergo is outrageous!
