This course introduces the fundamentals of Building Management Systems (BMS) and their role in modern building operations. Learners will explore the purpose and architecture of a BMS, understand key components such as sensors, controllers, actuators, meters, operator interfaces, and communication networks, and learn how these components work together to monitor and control building systems. The course also introduces common BMS applications across HVAC, lighting, electrical, energy, and integrated building systems, with particular attention to Air Handling Units (AHUs).
Learners will examine how BMS supports energy efficiency, occupant comfort, operational visibility, alarms, scheduling, and equipment monitoring through practical examples and guided activities. Designed for beginners, technicians, engineers, facility teams, and professionals entering the field of building automation, this course provides the foundation required for more advanced learning in AHU design, control logic, BMS interface design, commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance. No prior BMS or programming experience is required.
