Dataquote is a Dutch big data startup that delivers market insights (property valuations, business intelligence and marketing intelligence) to real estate professionals, marketing professionals, governments and financials. They collect commercial and residential real estate information from over 7 million house owners in The Netherlands and over 17 million real estate objects in Europe. Currently they operate in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France.

In order to deliver insights, Dataquote uses public data such as land register, address register, national and local statistics and chamber of commerce data and combines this with public data on the web collected by robots. All this data is compared and linked to each other for additional insights. Dataquote delivers this information via their online platform with a subscription model and at the time of writing they have around 100 customers. Customers include brokers, banks, insurance companies, housing corporations, investors, authorities and real estate project developers. They get market information around commercial and residential objects and object information such as energy labels, neighbourhood information, living expenses and transactions.

Housing corporations use Dataquote to counter subrent or to obtain residential preferences and livability in the neighbourhood. Municipalities use it to understand developments in housing prices and understand market developments. For investors the information can be useful to better understand opportunities and risks of certain real estate developments as well as to monitor their portfolio. For construction companies Dataquote provides extended market and construction information, analyse risks and understand socio-demographic data.

Datatquote was launched in 2009 by Luke Liplijn and has not yet received any funding. They did manage to grow and currently employ 12 employees. Next to the dashboard, they also have 210 datasets that can be bought for personal use. These datasets include data such as average value of houses in Spain, Sweden or Scotland as well as datasets that inform you about all hotels that have elevators. It is a wide range of data sets and some of them are rather expensive.

Of course, the real estate industry offers ample solutions for big data questions and there are several other (large) organisations that have developed similar solutions. Still, Dataquote has managed to grow in a few years to 12 employees and 100 customers without any funding received. They have won two local awards and there is enough opportunity to expand to more countries in Europe. Therefore we give them a 6 bits rating.
