What’s The Future Of Privacy In A Connected World?

Do people understand how much data is being collected from us? Although we enjoy using new smart devices such as connected cars or domotica, organisations need to make sure that these devices are there for the consumer and not against the consumer. Organisations need to ensure that smart devices talk to each other and us but not to others, after all, we don’t want a spamming refrigerator. Such technologies that track data can make life more efficient, but can they go too far? Big data is the fuel that powers the information economy but in today’s world privacy does mean something different for everyone. While in the USA there is a huge debate about the NSA, in the UK they are now debating whether or not the country’s health database can be used by researcher to discover new cures for diseases. In this video Jeffrey Brown talks to technology and privacy experts Jules Polonetsky and Adam Thierer on why corporations should avoid being “creepy” and why it’s important to empower consumers to hold companies and developers to strict standards to ensure the future of privacy in a connected world.
