In only a few years our lives have been completely changed thanks to new technological advances and innovations, and never before has data played such an important role in our society.
With a smartphone in our pocket, a computer at home, a laptop at work, an electric or hybrid car, online banking solutions, email accounts, social media, and clouding storage for all of our important documents, we are relying on data companies to support our everyday lives.
In 2017 big data adoption has already reached 53% among companies according to the market study, and it is expected to grow during the next years. The companies that are in charge of handling all of the data we need have literally helped reshape the world we live in, and they are some of the most influential forces in our society.
Naturally, the influence of these big data companies has also created excellent investment opportunities and will continue to do so. To get a better idea of which companies are predicted to perform the best in 2019, I did intensive research around the web, and now I am ready to give my thoughts on the matter. Below you’ll find a list of what I believe are the most prominent big data companies of 2019 for stock traders.
Big Data Companies Incredible Growth Rate
In mid-2018, not one but two big data companies set market valuation records just weeks apart. Apple was first with pushing past a market cap of $1 trillion in August and Amazon achieved the same remarkable feat only weeks later. At the same time, Amazon’s stock surged past $2,000 establishing their dominance in the industry as well as an investment opportunity.
Since then, the market has slowed down a bit, and the companies aren’t performing as well anymore. For example, both Apple and Amazon have dropped below $1 trillion. However, expectations are still huge for what is to come next year, and as mentioned, I have listed the biggest data companies in 2019.
1. Microsoft
Microsoft is one of the original data companies that has had a huge impact on our lives over the past couple of decades. Today the company that made a name for themselves as a leading hardware and software manufacturer has started to dominate the clouding industry with their cloud computing service Microsoft Azure. In fact, Azure is second only to Amazon’s AWS in terms of size.
The company’s forecast for 2019 is only positive and with a market cap of well over $850 million, Microsoft has the potential of joining the trillion dollar club rather soon. Another good indication of how much potential Microsoft has is how well the company stock handled the last couple of week’s turmoil on the American stock market.
2. IBM
Although smaller in size than Microsoft, IBM is also recognized as one of the original data companies. For the last couple of years, IBM has fought hard to re-establish themselves as a driving force in the tech and data industry, and it has been paying off. IBM now belongs to one of the most influential companies of the last 20 years, and they are on track to impact our lives for many more years to come.
IBM has never been scared to test new waters, and with their latest focus on hybrid cloud computing and banking data using blockchain and other innovative solutions, they have all the potential in the world to increase their dominance in 2019.
3. Google (Alphabet)
Google is perhaps the most important data company of our time, and it’s definitely one of the most prominent data companies in 2019. With an undisputed authority over pretty much every part of our online lives, Google is a force to be reckoned with. In addition, Google was one of the early adopters of cloud computing, and they will continue to drive innovation in the field. As if that wasn’t enough, Google has integrated all their data into one infrastructure, thus creating an unparalleled network of optimized user data.
All that being said, the reason why Google is a data company I’m keeping an eye on in 2019 is because of how they dominate the way we use the internet, our mobile devices, and a large chunk of all the advertisement we are exposed to.
4. Oracle
Most analysts agree that Oracle is set to experience modest to good growth in 2019. Their Cloud Services & License Support revenue is expected to grow by upwards of 8 percent year to year.
For the last few years, Oracle’s cloud services (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS) has been the company’s core, and with plans of expanding the service, I see huge potential in this data company. However, compared to the other companies on this list, Oracle is known to not grow as rapidly. In other words, Oracle is on a path to grow slowly and steadily for a longer period of time which is why we’re monitoring them for 2019.
5. Amazon
Amazon was one of the best-performing companies of 2018 and is estimated to perform even better during 2019. Even though Amazon is known for online shopping, it’s the Amazon Web Service (AWS) that has been driving much of their revenue and growth for the past few months.
Additionally, Amazon is currently working on turning user data into innovative solutions for targeted online advertising, and that project is one of the most exciting data projects for 2019. In fact, some analysts claim that Amazon’s advertising business has the potential of more than tripling in size and surpassing AWS by 2021.
Final Thoughts
Data companies proved to be one of the most lucrative investments in 2018, and the market is indicating that the trend will continue during 2019. As always, it’s important that you place your investments correctly and only focus on the big data companies with the most potential while trying to stay away from the least promising ones. For example, I suggest you invest in the five companies above while trying to avoid Facebook and Twitter who are both looking bleak for 2019.
