Earlier I discussed how big data can contribute to reduce our global carbon footprint and now IBM has created the HyRef technology that enables them to forecast when the wind will blow and when and where the sun will shine. The technology combines big data analytics and weather modelling technologies to accurately forecast the availability of wind power and solar energy up to a month in advance.
