Senior Research Scientist – Cytogenetics

Role scope:
Working for an established organisation who are known as good operators in their field, this role will support the design and development of a portfolio of cytogenetics products.
Role responsibilities:
- Development and supporting the design of a new product line, in conjunction with maintaining the current range
- Playing an integral role in internal research projects, including experimental design, concept of project and execution of project through resources, suppliers and staffing
- Act as subject matter expert, provide training to other members of staff as part of ongoing projects
- Present result data and findings to the team and wider business, suggest areas for improvement
- Staying abreast of developments in literature to seek out elegant solutions to complex challenges within the cytogenetics field
- Working to stringent protocols including ISO 13485 and GLP, maintaining a culture of quality, compliance and adherence to HTA regulations
- Mentoring and coaching less experienced members of the team
Person specification
- Minimum Masters (or equivalent) in a relevant life science field such as Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science or Biochemistry for example
- Significant background of working with analytical techniques such as FISH, PCR, Phage Display, Fluorescence Microscopy, ideally from within a diagnostics/IVD setting where you have demonstrable responsibility for developing and designing cytogenetics and/or molecular diagnostics
- Some supervisory experience, good leadership qualities and able to manage both your own and the wider team’s time effectively for maximum output
- Proactive, curious and solutions-focused
- Able to work effectively to deadlines, always mindful of the bigger picture for the team and business, and comfortable with managing multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills
