A leading energy/commodity trading firm with a presence across the spectrum; from oil through to power, renewables and carbon is looking to hire a distinguished Senior Data Scientist/ML Engineer with a collaborative, creative and ambitious mindset to deliver innovative solutions to the business.
You will have a foothold across all aspects of the data science workflow from project idea inception and iterative modelling, through to engaging with a breadth of stakeholders to ensure maximum value is being delivered. This will involve engaging regularly with traders, brokers, analysts and researcher across the majority of the firm, enabling the successful candidate to get the truest understanding of the data that goes into the firms models and problems they’re trying to solve.
This represents a very good opportunity for someone at the mid-advanced stages of their careers in data science to make a tangible impact in a fast-paced, commercially minded, and ultimately very meritocratic environment.
What we’re looking for:
- A Masters or PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or similar
- 5+ years of hands on experience in applying data science methods to real-world business problems and working with messy datasets.
- Fluency in Python, with the ability to write understandable, extensible, and well-documented code
- Familiarity with various data storage paradigms (SQL, NoSQL, Map-Reduce frameworks, etc.)
- Demonstrable attention to detail, and a thirst to understand the whys and hows’ not just taking accuracy metrics at face value
- Experience presenting data visually to a wide audience (via D3, Tableau, plotly, etc.)
- Application of a wide range of machine learning methodologies to real life applications
- Cloud-based data science workflows (on AWS in particular, is a nice-to-have)
Bonus points for:
- A few years in industry developing and deploying machine learning models (in NLP, LLM and ideally generative AI domains)
- Experience in successfully applying LLMs to solve business problems, solid understanding of Gen AI design paradigms and best practices
- Practical, real world (production) experience with Gen AI based models and their applications
Compensations is highly competitive and based on experience. This is a full-time position based in London.
