We are currently looking to recruit a Maritime Mine Countermeasures Team Leader to head up a multi-disciplinary team of researchers. This is an exciting new opportunity whereby you will support and lead R&D programmes within AEUK’s Research and Innovation Division.
AEUK’s Research and Innovation Division is an agile team engaged in innovative cutting edge research within the underwater defence domain. We work closely with our customers to create new capability which protects lives at sea. Our programmes are varied in scope and discipline, so we are considering experienced applicants with a variety of skills. This specific opportunity is for an experienced research scientist with team leadership and technical leadership skills who will lead the division’s Mine Countermeasures Team.
With no two days the same, research roles at ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in: development of new signal processing algorithms; development of numerical simulation tools; system design; undertaking laboratory and at-sea experiments; working onboard naval platforms setting to work equipment and training ships staff.
Applicants are expected to be dynamic, innovative, resourceful, committed and have a track record of technical and team leadership and successfully planning, coordinating and delivering research programmes to time, cost and quality. Applicants will be expected to support the bidding process, including defining technical content and cost bases. Applicants will be required to assure the technical output of the team, including ensuring provision of sound advice to operational users.
The successful applicant would be expected to have experience of maritime mine countermeasures. Knowledge of a selection of the following areas and an ability to lead a research team crossing them all is required:
Planning and leading experiments in the laboratory and at-sea, including consideration of environmental, health and safety aspects
Systems Engineering Lifecycle processes and tools
Planning technical input to bids, including defining the cost base
Signal processing and data analysis
Modelling signatures of naval platforms
Use of scientific computational software such as Matlab or Python
Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required:

Degree or PhD level physics, mathematics, or related degree supported by relevant experience
Team leadership experience is desirable; an aptitude for working with and leading people is essential

Working with stakeholders from across the business to support development and delivery of customer solutions
Communicating technical findings and concepts to a range of expert and non-expert stakeholders within AEUK and the customer community
