As a Principal Data Analyst in OptumCare Advanced Analytics group, you will lead efforts to manipulate and analyze data to support program evaluations and drive effectiveness of palliative care and end of life programs. You will partner with stakeholders to define data requirements to conduct data-driven analyses and establish efficient data aggregations to help tell the story of how OptumCare are making a difference. You will become a subject matter expert on the data and present results to our internal customers. You’ll work closely with business leaders and other analysts and researchers in the team to develop innovative analytic solutions to achieve business objectives.

Develop and implement appropriate business requirements for dataset creation for research projects in collaboration with research analysts and Advanced Analytics leaders
Conduct Data Feasibility and Sample Size analyses for Program Evaluation Studies
Develop code to extract and manipulate health insurance claims data, health care operational data, and clinical data from a variety of data sources
Perform highly complex data cleansing, transformation, aggregation, and summarization and output datasets for analysis
Identify and investigate data quality issues and lead efforts to research data anomalies
Lead team efforts in documenting data and programming processes
Serve as a data SME across multiple internal data sources
Coach and assist other researcher and analysts regarding data sources and code usage
Work collaboratively with other teams to develop standard code and data protocols to be used across Advanced Analytics team
Interact directly with customers to gather specifications for research projects and ad hoc requests
Lead analytic and data visualization projects within team or across teams
Apply advanced and complex SAS programming techniques

Undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, public health, health services research, economics, or related field
5+ years of experience in analyzing health insurance claims, transactions data, biometric, health assessment, or similar types of clinical, program or employer data
5+ years of experience integrating data from large relational databases
5+ years of experience SAS, SQL, or equivalent programming experience
5+ years of experience writing advanced Data Step SAS program or other equivalent programming language
Excellent time/project management and problem-solving skills
Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau
Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative in order to excel in a fast-paced environment, pivot priorities as business needs shift
Excellent presentation skills and professional communication style (verbal and written)
Proficiency in statistical techniques such as logistic regression, multivariate analysis, and linear models
Working knowledge in Medicare, commercial, and/or Medicaid claims

Colorado, Connecticut, New York or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/New York/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
