Purpose of the job:
In today’s digital world, HSBC needs to develop secure solutions for our customers and colleagues ensuring appropriate defences are in place to address evolving security threats. Central to this need, a robust & resilient security architecture is required that defines the security capabilities, functions and roadmaps in support of the strategic business objectives at an enterprise level.
Architecture is a global function responsible for the definition of the future state security, and architectural roadmap within the Digital space. This function is accountable for the ongoing evolution, communication and creation of security strategy, patterns, products, influencing, consultancy and adoption.
The overall services that the team provide are as follows:
- Define, design, evaluate and maintain the Customer Security and IAM capabilities
- Drive the implementation of customer security technical solutions and associated processes and controls
- Measure adherence to the architecture within IT to drive standardisation and reuse
- Security product selection & implementation with associated processes and controls
- A consulting capability to influence business and technology solution decisions during ideation and impact assessment phases
- Expertise in cloud architecture
The role cuts across architecture will be part of Retail & wealth – customer security and anti-fraud platform in Channel Transformation.
What you will be doing;
- Lead the definition of architecture and design of a business critical authorisation and authentication platform to serve our global needs
- Lead the development and implementation of architecture strategy and standards.
- Validate each domain / market target state roadmap, directing attention to ensure the balance between discrete needs and group wide direction are incorporated.
- Consult on new best practices, processes, operating model, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies.
- Work with fellow peers and senior colleagues to ensure vitality across the team and share the responsibility of adapting the capability and its people to the high degree of change and challenge that the market is driving
- Stay abreast of technology trends and advise Chief Architect and the business about potential benefits/impacts.
- Lead and drive operational excellence on the full architectural life cycle and guidance to development teams and ensure quality technical deliverables.
- Identify all forums and communities requiring authorisation & authentication architecture representation and drive the agenda around both overarching compliance and specific innovations needed.
- Ensure a robust representation of the authorisation & authentication strategy for the bank is understood and fully supported by the group and IT risk functions, including all parties responsible for the execution of responsibility at the operational line of defence level
- Lead and drive operational excellence on the full architectural life cycle and guidance to development teams and ensure quality technical deliverables.

Technical Capabilities
Deep experience of large business critical authorisation and authentication platform systems in Financial Services or similar industries comprising of the below aspects:
High Level & Holistic Capabilities sought:
- Experience in leading edge authentication and authorisation platforms and infrastructures, applying solutions from experience in decomposing monolith approaches and methods to manage technical debt and duplication of solutions.
- Ability to understand, articulate and translate authentication and authorisation strategies into technical design, leveraging API and micro-service architecture techniques.
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of enterprise level software development and API based integration e.g. Mulesoft
Ways of Working Experiences sought:
- Experience of Agile principles and processes and leading teams in agile at-scale methods using DevOps tools and processes.
- Understanding of and practical experience working with DevOps toolsets and frameworks.
More extensive technical knowledge and experience sought:
- Deep technical understanding of biometric authentication and authorisation systems
- Sound knowledge on Digital related technologies such as everyday banking services, as a platform, dynamic content management, payment services, social media channels etc.
- Understand channel applications and integration components, common digital and traditional integration technologies and the relevance of that to the implementation of authentication and authorisation solutions
- Identify key system architecture components, propose and help teams build solutions that unblock deployments.
