Sportlight is an ambitious, high-growth startup setting out to revolutionise sports science and sports analytics. With significant investor backing and several years of developing our technology, we are looking to rapidly expand over the coming months.
This role is an opportunity to develop and shape a highly innovative product for the sports market. This role will be responsible for leading the small but growing data science team and the development of new products, working closely with other development teams and engaging with professional clubs. This role is well suited to someone with a passion for sport and technology although sports knowledge is not a pre-requisite for this role.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the data science team working closely with software developers and sports scientists to take research through to product
Analyse and develop new insights into player and team data in close collaboration with customers and stakeholders
Prepare and share insights with customers in a clear and impactful way
Responsible for product validity studies and sharing of research outputs with customers and stakeholders
Reporting to management and other stakeholders
Support, manage and mentor team members
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in quantative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
At least 5 years' of experience in quantitative analytics or data modelling
Experience of managing teams or projects within a company
Experience of taking research through to product within a commercial setting
Deep understanding of predictive modelling, machine-learning, clustering and classification techniques, and algorithms
Fluency in a programming language (Required: Python/R, Ideally: Java, SQL)
Familiarity with Big Data frameworks and visualization tools (e.g. Databricks, Tableau)
This role is remote, however, travel to monthly meetings in London/Oxford area will be required as well as occasional face to face meetings with team members.
