Who are the team?
The uData team have a mission to help UME become the most data rich company in the global life insurance industry. We do this by providing convenient access to rich, multi-source, cross-product data with minimum costs and complexity.
The uData team supports a wide range of stakeholders, including internal teams, external clients, and key decision makers, enabling them to get the most out of our data.
We are a cross-functional agile team made up of a number of skillsets, including data engineers, data scientists, test engineers, product market specialists and agile coaches.
Team outputs/objectives
uData strives to empower clients, other teams, and management to undertake high value analysis of data, supporting better decicison making and leveraging data as a competitive advantage.
We gather data from numerous sources, process it, and make it available via data extracts, structured data stores or BI tools.
We also provide support across the organisation, assisting with pre sales, integration, new client onboarding, and an ongoing commitment to managing changes where necessary.
What will I be doing?
You will be leading a new squad architecting and developing our next generation of data pipelines and ETLs.
The position involves working on a greenfield project initially scoping out, and running proofs of concept on tooling and processes required to solve the key business problem we are tackling. As well as producing the technical designs this role will work closely with the product manager to produce a roadmap and plan for delivery. Finally the role is expected to lead a cross-functional team in delivering the solution.
The tech lead will be expected to share knowledge internally and mentor and develop the more junior members of the team with a view to possible line management responsibilities in the future.
We are interested in candidates who:

Have extensive knowledge of data engineering principles and practices. Are proficient in designing and developing scalable data pipelines, implementing ETL processes, and ensuring the integrity and quality of data

Have a proven track record of successfully leading data engineering teams. They have experience overseeing the end-to-end data engineering lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment.

Are proficient in working with big data technologies, such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka. Have hands-on experience with distributed computing frameworks and data processing engines.

Have expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure). Have experience deploying and managing data pipelines and data storage solutions in a cloud environment

Have experience in designing and implementing data lakes and lake warehouses.

Have experience in building self-service data platforms for use by other product teams (some may be non-technical) and an awareness of techniques such data mesh combined with the ability to propose and assess solutions to design problems.

Have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, data scientists, UX designers, and business stakeholders
