Head Of Engineering required for a material testing manufacturer based in Hook. The successful candidate will come from a similar background.
The Head of Engineering will have strategic and tactical responsibility for implementing engineering strategy and strategic operational goals to exceed customer expectations for product development, quality, cost and delivery, maximising efficiency, optimising and driving engineering excellence. You will provide clear leadership and vision, inspire and motivate staff to achieve excellence and mentor them as they develop new skills.
The vision for the next 2 years is for standardisation of our systems, process and procedures across the entire business. Engineering have begun this journey with the development of the new software which will be launched in 2023, with all other software packages to follow the same redevelopment path. Standardisation of Electronics takes the guise of updating to cutting-edge control systems with product commonality de-risking electronics for both GDS and customers. Mechanical hardware design takes a similar approach, as the complete product range will be reviewed with the intention of standardising manufacturing so we continue to deliver market leading advanced software controlled geotechnical laboratory systems to our customers.
Head Of Engineering – Material Testing Manufacturing Position Overview
- Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
- Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market
- Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
- Take ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines and any associated documents relating to engineering standards
- Develop planning and prioritise processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resource is well aligned to maximise delivery of projects
- Ensure any new equipment or engineering activity is supported with appropriate qualification documentation and that this is appropriately stored. Ensure up to date drawings are maintained appropriately
- Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality and safety
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
- Work with the rest of the leadership team to decide which engineering projects are the highest priority against the business targets and which can be executed with the available resource
- Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy
- Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on engineering activities
Head Of Engineering – Material Testing Manufacturing Position Requirements
- Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification
- Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems
- Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
- Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
- Technical mind-set
- Change agent who can challenge and drive process improvements
Head Of Engineering – Material Testing Manufacturing Position Remuneration
Salary dependent on experience
– We provide free lunch, sandwiches, baguettes, salads, hot food
– 20 days holiday per year, + 8 bank holidays. additional 1 day for every calendar year up to 25
– Non contractual bonus (1 months' salary)
– Xmas time we close down, (3 days of holiday)
– Working hours are a 40 hr week
– Parking on site
