Position: Embedded Software Engineer Guitar amplifier/ MI products
Location: Northampton, UK
Blackstar is recruiting an audio-specific Embedded Software engineer to join our established R&D team. This is an important role within our department and our software team.
The role:
Due to continued business growth and expanding product roadmap, we are looking to appoint an embedded software engineer looking for a long-term career opportunity who wants to help our team and business grow. This is an exciting and diverse position where the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for the embedded firmware of Blackstars new products, plus the upkeep and maintenance of our existing portfolio.
The duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to
Low-level embedded development, implementation and optimisation
This includes working with low-speed MCUs, which have minimal memory on the target platforms
Testing own code digitally and sonically on amps and products throughout the process.
Assisting in software project planning, scoping and problem-solving
The ideally sought candidate will possess the following
Qualified to degree level or above in a relevant subject
Minimum 2 years+ commercial experience as an Embedded Engineer.
Proficient in C to a high standard.
Experienced Full life cycle development with a previous product.
Have exposure to bench test equipment, power supplies, multi-meters, digital scopes, logic analysers etc
Experience with the ARM cortex M series of microcontrollers.
Basic understanding of electronics and the ability to read and follow an electronic schematic
diagram.
2+ years using a source control system such as GitHub, GIT, CVS etc.
Excellent demonstrable Embedded C programming skills
Strong understanding of software engineering principles
Additionally, sought Experience / Knowledge:
Guitar player with a first-hand understanding of products in the broader Musical Instrument market
Critical listening experience
Optimisation on out-of-order architectures
Real-world embedded development on an audio system
Independent and self-reliant, being able to work without close supervision, in addition to having a team mentality
Good understanding of C++, C#, and Bash
Working within a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) structure
