The Search & Ranking team is a cross-functional team of 12 Data
Scientists, Engineers and Product & Delivery managers. Together, they’re responsible for the
search platform, ranking algorithms and search user experience across the whole of Depop.
This role is one of the three Data Scientist roles in the Search
and Ranking team. This team is working on features and algorithms making the ranking of the
returned items relevant, personal and contextual.
Although embedded in the cross functional Search & Ranking team,
the role is a member of the Data Science & Machine Learning team. This is a team of 11 Data
Scientists who share weekly ceremonies and development practices.
Design, train and deploy machine learning solutions that will
help our users find products they’ll love
Collaborate with a cross functional team including back end
engineers, data scientists and analysts to improve Depop’s search engine
Communicate complex solutions in a clear and understandable way
to both experts and non-experts
Prototype new approaches and productionise solutions at scale
for our millions of active users
Optimise existing algorithms in order to improve both
performance and business metrics
Own the delivery of new machine learning products as well as
the maintenance of existing systems in the field of search results and recommendations
Masters degree or Ph.D. in computer science, maths, statistics,
economics or related disciplines
Experience designing and developing ML solution to solve
business problems in particular in the domain of search engines or recommender systems
Experience productionising ML model on cloud platform like AWS
- Ability to write production grade python code
Experience with spark (scala or python) for ETLs and model
Experience with deep learning frameworks like tensorflow, keras
or mxnet desirable
Experience with ranking algorithms and their metrics
Ability to research machine learning techniques and develop
Passion for learning new skills and staying up-to-date with ML
