Renishaws Encoder Products Division (EPD) designs and supplies cutting-edge position feedback technology to the worlds precision measurement, automation, and manufacturing industries. It is highly likely that something you own contains a part or device that was manufactured with the help of one of Renishaws encoder products.
EPD is made up of engineers, scientists and technicians all working together to produce market leading products for sale around the world. We start with cutting edge optical, algorithm and circuit designs, developing our own ASICs and sensors where required. We then use innovative mechanical engineering to turn our core technology into a range of desirable products for our broad customer base.
Working closely with colleagues in our manufacturing division, we develop manufacturing and assembly processes and software to deliver quality products by the hundreds of thousands that in turn, perform reliably and repeatedly to sub-micronaccuracies for our customers.
The Division is now looking for an Automation Software engineer to join one of its Current Products teams.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to automate and verify precision manufacturing and testing systems using LabVIEW.
Responsibilities
-
Work as part of the current products team from concept through to production.
-
Capture and document requirements for highly automated and controlled assembly and test systems, and implement them using NI LabVIEW.
-
Gain a full understanding of systems to pre-empt potential production and yield problems.
-
Respond to production issues to ensure manufacturing output maintains high quality at high throughput.
-
Document systems prior to handover to full production.
Key Requirements
-
A degree or further education qualification (such as an HND) in a technical subject e.g. Engineering (Electronic, Mechanical, Production), Computer Science, Maths, Physics
-
Experience with programming (e.g. LabVIEW, Python, C#, HMI design, PLC programming, etc.) with an aptitude to learn
-
A mathematical aptitude, for the analysis of test data and process statistics.
Training for these desirable traits can be provided if required for the right candidate
-
Experience developing software using LabVIEW.
-
Experience using software to control or communicate with hardware.
-
Familiarity with real-time and FPGA systems, especially NI hardware such as cRIO, sbRIO, PXI.
-
An appreciation of electronics and/or mechanical engineering, particularly in the context of manufacturing and testing jigs.
-
Experience working in a production environment.
-
Familiarity with SQL database systems.
-
Understanding of statistics in relation to production processes (CpK, Gauge R&R, MSA and SPC charts).
Opportunities for career development and training
-
We are committed to helping engineers develop their skills and knowledge to fulfil their potential and provide opportunities for training and mentorship to support this. Examples include:
-
Under our Enterprise Agreement with NI, you will have access to NIs training and development programme to hone your LabVIEW skills. We have multiple Certified LabVIEW Architects (CLAs) within our team and would help you develop on the job to maintain our high standards of process development.
-
Internal development courses (including report writing, time keeping, presentation skill).
-
External development courses (including Management, Coaching for Performance)
Person Specification
This role demands clear thinking and attention to detail. The successful applicant will be prepared to be involved in the whole product life cycle and integrating into a multi-disciplinary project team.
They will be a self-starter who can communicate their ideas and designs both within the team and to stakeholders.
